中秋节快乐! Zhōngqiūjié Kuàilè! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival Oak Forest!
It's time for Mid-Autumn Festival again! Thursday September 19th is the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, which means that it will be a full moon. This festival is the second largest holiday of the year in Chinese culture. It is full of stories and traditions, such as the famous archer, Hòuyì, shooting down the 9 suns, and the Jade Rabbit on the moon. Enjoy this wonderful holiday with your family, gather outside to light lanterns and eat moon cakes, and gaze at the brightness of the moon! Your teacher will be letting you know when Oak Forest will have our annual Mid-Autumn Festival in the courtyard. You don't want to miss it!
蛇年来了! The Year of the Snake is Here!
That's right! We've slithered into a new school year! It's 2013-2014 and the Chinese Department at Oak Forest is supercharged for the new year. We welcome Guo Laoshi to our faculty. As our newest teacher, she deserves a big 你好 (nǐhǎo) from all of you when you see her. There have been a lot of changes at Oak Forest since last year, but we are off to an incredible start. We look forward to teaching, learning and growing with our students this year and making it the best year ever for Chinese at Oak Forest. Welcome back!
Enjoy Your Summer Break Oak Forest Students!
It's been another amazing year at Oak Forest. It's hard to believe that it's already over and time for summer break yet again. We roared into the year like a dragon, and are now slithering off to soak up some sun in the Year of the Snake. Staffa Laoshi, Parker Laoshi, Ding Laoshi, Vatcher Laoshi and Ms. Ying all wish you a safe and enjoyable summer. Don't forget to use your Chinese as much as you can, and study on your own to be ready for Chinese classes again in a few months. To all our 5th Graders, good luck in middle school as you continue your language journey, and don't forget to come back and visit. To all of our other students, the Chinese Department can't wait to see you next year in The Forest.
Farewell Oak Forest! Staffa Laoshi and Parker Laoshi will miss you! Zàijiàn!
Three years have passed since Staffa Laoshi came to Oak Forest Elementary. Thanks to Oak Forest's students, teachers and administrators it has been the best 3 years as a teacher, and the most fun three years he's ever had. In 2011, Parker Laoshi joined him to enjoy the special place Staffa Laoshi talked about every day. We hope all of the students at Oak Forest have come to love Chinese and learning languages as much as we do, and that you will continue your learning wherever life takes you. For us, that place is Seoul, South Korea. We will miss each and every student at Oak Forest and all of the great times we've had together. Please keep in touch with use through our teacher pages! We love you Oak Forest Elementary! Ask your parents if it is ok, and search for "Staffa Laoshi" on Facebook to keep in touch there too!
